Hey guys was wondering if any one else has this problem. It seems that the black plastic cover between the firewall and the engine and just below the fuse center has begun to disintegrate before my eyes. There seems to be some insulation behind the cover. Has this happened to any of you and how do you fix it if you can?

A quick warning on this one. (I have not read the procedure or looking into this...) I remember seeing a couple of regulars planned on replacing theirs. My understanding is this is difficult to impossible w/o removing the motor.

Mine'* got the same problem... I went to the dealer and costs...82.18 (part No 52472695) and it'* describe as Barrier.

An option could be foil. Mine has foil covering an area that was broken and dealer did it. Is a type that will stick and has a layer of insulation.

I'll ask around for the easy and reliable fix.

What ever is put back there has to be able to withstand the heat. I'm was suprised to see that it wasn't some type of metal back there. The stuff is just so darn brittle just touching it breaks a little more off. A sticky backed foil would work. It would be nice to find it in black to match the firewall.

GM Parts Direct has the barrier for around $47, add shipping and your around $57. I guess the next thing would be how to get it back there?
