Ever seen THIS happen?
Hi! I'm new.
Ever seen a supercharger MELT before? Mine did today. I'd like to show you a pic or two, but I can't get the dumb computer to work right. My guess is the previous owner ran the thing too long with a bad belt tensioner, which ate the coupler and snout bearing.
Glad the fire went out, and it didn't take out anything important. God is good!
I ordered a reman with a lifetime warranty. Should be here by the end of the week. Coming out of NC. Once I get it, I'll slap that puppy in. I hear it is not very difficult to do. The blower sales guy also said that 170k is a remarkable amount of time on the blower. They normally spew at 95k-130k. This one should last me a good while, as long as I take care of it. Lost half my core because of the meltdown, though.

from my understanding the the supercharger and its assembly usually will outlive most of the vehicle if it has been taken care of, as in the oil inside it has been changed periodically and regularly. Usually if anything goes wrong, the nose cone leaks, or the coupler rattles, in any case, not that difficult of a job to do.

The blowers will nearly always outlast the engines. They are simply roller bearings within a sump, as simple as simple can be. To hear one melt down is surprising to say the least because I ran mine for at least 30K without oil and since service is running fine now. I can honestly say that most SC rebuilds are done out of ignorance. The techs hear a bad rattle and unbolt the assembly for rebuild. Really all they need is a new 30 dollar plastic coupler (maybe not in your case). SC'* do not normally blow after 100K!!!!!!! period!!!
Hey, I have a white SSEi too! Looks like yours, but mine doesn't have the headlight covers...
How do you put a pic in one of these messages? I tried cut and paste -- doesn't do a thing!
The previous owners had a broken supercharger belt tensioner. I think that was the culprit. Also, I have reason to believe they didn't keep up with the oil -- like y'all mentioned. My new blower will outlast the car, I'm sure. I'm a maintennance FIEND!
