Yeah Trav... my rear cover bolts were also loose when we pulled the tranny last time. We cleaned everything up in there and retorqued, and the pan is dry as a bone on the underside now . You should be in good shape if Tim did all that stuff.

In 23 days I should have just about the same transmission. Glad it worked out well for you!

Where the splines narrow there is where we usually see them strip out and 4th gear is lost. This one looked to be in pretty good shape but having a stronger part in the trans made sense. Also the stock differential was about to let go in Travis'* trans. The pin that holds the pinion shaft in place had sheared allowing the pinion shaft to rotate in the carrier. When the pinion shaft siezes is when the gears exlode out the side of the housing cover causing devestation.

Due to money constraints Travis elected to have a fresh stock differential replace the damaged unit. As a side note our Gen 3 LSD has roller bearings where the pinion shaft meets the carrier greatly diminishing the potential for the pinion shaft to sieze against the carrier.

All in all the insides of Travis'* transaxle appeard to be in pretty good shape. Some of the clutches were a bit worn and the metals showed burn marks but pretty impressive for a 300k transaxle.

Todd, what is a ballpark figure of how much Travis could have improved his 1/4 mile if he opted for the LSD? I'm curious of the improvements when it comes to times.

Every .1 you drop off your 60' is .2 off your ET. Travis probably has the power for a high 1.8 60' if he can hook.

I think Kyle'* question was , will an lsd make a difference over a stock diff on the 60'.

The LSD will help you bias power better 50/50 even on a good launch with a stock diff your tires are not rotating the same speed (torque steer anyone?). You will get better and more even launches with an LSD so yes it would help. How much depends on how much better your 60' gets.

I know it took 2 tenths off my 1/4 mile time.
