Default DTC 691;what does it mean?

I dont know if i have the wording exactly right now, but the code def in my scan tool says 'invalid pass key frequency'. what in the world is that? When i clear it it comes right back. :?

could be your resister in your key, you may want to clean it

Or try another key. I don't have my scantool handy to look that up. Anyone else have a detailed description of the OBD2 codes handy?

ok, yeah i guess that would make sense. the key is giving a frequency the whole time its in the ignition isnt it?

The similiar ODBII code is P1691. i couldnt find the OBDI def for the one i got, but i found on the internet like 3 differnt meanings for the ODBII version, and although similar, none were exactly the same.

I'll have to try the spare key, i hid it. Hopefully not from myself!

Check the code number again... I don't see it in the 94 FSM.

its there, but impossible to find for OBD I for some reason. (at least, searching on the internet). if you look at the OBDII version, P1691, i've found 3 differnt meanings, all of them releated to what mine is saying but not the same words. ITs got to be somewhere for OBD I, my Scantool software has it in there! :?

oh yeah, i have EASE scantool. I lke it.
at the time, i was getting the idiot light for running lean, thats why i checked it. (from STP fuel additive). This one doesnt throw a idiot light. i havent got a chance to check it again with another key. too busy or just too lazy since everything else is workin' now. :P
