Hi all,

Wife was nice enough to tell me her window stopped going down after I hit the button.

I can still hear the motor, but it sounds like it'* off a track or something broke.

Makes a quick tap-tap-tap-tap-tap-tap-tap sound when I push down and a little when I push up.

Any idea why what would cause this? can I get parts at a local part supply?

The gears are likely stripped out. Remove the door panel and the weather seal. The window motor will be right there. You can try www.rockauto.com I have picked up a few window motors from them.

It sounds yes like gears are stripped I reccomend inspecting and then replacing if needed you can get them at a local parts store but rock auto usually has really good deals!

Took it apart, and the 1/2 mooon gear that the window motor attaches to fell off.

How is that retained?

What'* it caled?

Can I get a replacement?

Ok, looks like the welds broke. This is the 1/3 moon gear that the motor attaches to. Wha is this called? where can I get a replacement?

Not really no, but if you go to the GM part direct site you can see images of the parts. Just look at the door and it will show all the parts.

From what you are describing, it sounds like a component of the window regulator is broken. You probably won't be able to buy just that component, so you are looking for a replacement window regulator.
