Default Does 96 Vin K crank sensor need alignment tool?

I was wondering when they changed the design on the crank sensors.
The guy at the dealer said you don't need an alignment tool on the
newer 3800'* but wasn't sure which years the change was made.
Also said you don't even have to remove the balancer on them also.

I'm pretty sure that the Harmonic balancer has to come off. I doubt you need an alignment tool, just look at where your old one points, make marks and put the new one in the same way.
These are just my guesses, I'm not 100 percent.
