Default Disappearing Gauge Cluster

I have a 1992 SSE and I am having a problem with the gauge cluster "blanking" out on me while i'm driving. As a drive the instument panel goes "crazy" and everything goes dead except the speedometer and the tachometer. Anybody have any ideas and what I might be able to do to fix this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated

I also had the same problem when my alternator was dying.

Alternator is a good place to start, but if it checks out, use the cluster removal procedure in Techinfo. Clean your cluster connections, and if you have the confidence, carefully disassemble and reassemble your cluster (including all the intermediate board connections).
