Default Dealer BSing about not to change to oxygen sensor??

I went there to the dealer see how much a o2 sensor would be since all the part stores around here have only have bosch. ($15 cheaper at GMPD BTW) He told me in the $50 range and asked if I had a SES light. I told him not and he told me not to change it because if its never been change it might break when I remove it? He said his guys in service spends hours sometimes removing them cause they break

So is this guy an idiot or is this true? I dont think it would break as long as I put steady pressure on the wrench and don't jerk it around. Plus there engine bay in ginormus so I don't have to worry about the amount of room.

He is a idiot. I have changed over 10-15 O2 sensors over the past 10 years with no problems. Worse you can do is not get it out or slip and slice your knuckles wide open.

Confirmed idiot. I've changed TONS of them in ALL of my cars and never had ONE break. sometimes a little hard to get out, but breaking is the stupidest thing i've ever heard.

Oh. and if you wanna get a cheaper one, you can get something like a Denso on RockAuto.com.

Ok, I thought so. Anyone have the part number for one on a 98 SE? Might as well order both...

Just use some "Knock Loose" spray a few minutes before loosening. it'll add to the ease.

They're easier to get out if the exhaust is slightly warm, but not so hot as to burn yourself.
