Default Creaking springs

Ever since I've owned my car it'* had a creaking noise when you turn the wheel at low speed. I've checked my power steering level, greased the front end, and inspected for loose parts. I've finally narrowed it down to the front springs. It doesn't happen if I jack up the front end. When you turn the wheel the struts turn and the springs on the struts turn as well. I think the noise I'm hearing is the sound of the top of the spring turning on the underside on the upper strut mount. Anyone heard of this?

Sure. The top of the spring pushes against a bearing plate that must be able to rotate freely when you turn the wheel. These strut bearings get bad and need to be replaced. periodically. I would guess this is likely your problem as the sound changes when you change the load on the spring by jacking up the car.

Cheap fix (temporary):

Pop the black plastic cap off the strut towers under the hood and thouroghly spray underneath with WD-40. It'* given me a year already with no return of bad upper strut bearing problems.
