Default crazy heater....

hi
i am having a weird problem with my heater...
it is not ecc but what it is doing i have no idea even where to look to begin to fix it.

1. on the fan button only the high works.
2. none of the adjusters work (a.c./heater/defrost. ect.)
3. fan and heater does come on when it is selected to any adjuster. cant select where u want it from that button.
4. the hot and cold button. this is how i can change where i want my heat...
cold is.. goes to the floor change it to hot and it comes up from the defrost. if i have it in the middle both the floor heater and defrost vents blow air...

any idea'* im like dumb founded...
94 sle if that is needed

Fan only working on high, IIRC there is a resistor for low speeds and high is direct through a relay to the battery.

On the choice of air direction, check the vacuum tank located near the brake booster on the firewall under the hood. Most likely the vacuum line is old and decayed or has come unhooked. The vacuum controls where the air goes and floor/defrost are the defaults.

Well, all direction of air in the interior is controlled by vacuum. It sounds like there is a vacuum problem somewhere....either from the source or in the distribution of the vacuum from your controller.

If no vacuum leaks or plugged/pinched vacuum lines are present then maybe the controller has gone bad. You say you don't have ECC, so you have the three **** system correct?

You may want to remove the lower dash trim and remove the controller from the dash. Look at the back of the controller (where the air selector **** is) with all the vacuum lines attached to a clear connector. look at all the lines to insure they are not pinched/crimped/plugged. Also, the violet line is your source line. Trace the violet line back and under the dash to insure it is connected and not leaking anywhere. That violet line runs through the firewall and connects to a "Y" fitting that comes from the vacuum tank (the fitting and violet line may be contained in a wire loom and wrapped in black tape). Insure that connection is secure and not leaking.

Other than that, I guess I would look at trying to find another controller to try.
