That is where GM programmed them. Our engines run cleaner being nice and toasty...but there'* a balance between hot and running well.

Not quite.

Hotter = more efficient and cleaner running. Meanwhile..it shortens engine life.
Cooler = Less efficient..longer engine life and happier person driving.

I hated it when my gauge went over 210F all the time. I'd get off the highway..hit a stoplight and up went the temp.

If my temps get hot during city driving I I can get my fans to come on by hitting ac button. I then wait to hear the comp to come on with the fans. I then hit ac button again which turns ac off but the fans stay on until temp comes down. I have auto climate and it seems to work without adding an additional by pass switch
