i have the same problem w/ my fans... they will not come on with AC or engine high temp and i dont know where the relay or fuse is to check it. hey is your AC compressor working right because mine is not working either. are they related Gearheads?

That’* what I'm trying to figure out. It would be stupid to have those two systems co-inside with each other.
What if you can’t repair the a/c unit because of cost or some thing like that.
It must be with in the Relay if you have not changed your temp sensor already I’m ready to change the relay my self.
I went to a web site and some guy told me that it’* the third or the fourth on the firewall. I will let you know if that works for me.

dont know if yours is the same but i have a 97 sse anniversary edition and in my owners manual and it says the cooling fans fuse is on 5C....they dony say nothing about the relays in here but i will look futher into it......going to go and take a look at my fuses NOW!

Did you look at the fuse and did you get any results.

I pick up a Scan tool from one of my friends, I will see if some kind of codes come up and let you know.

well it was connected but i have bigger problems and didnt got further but it was connected securely. i never got to try an change it out with the #2 horn relay.....i'm just going to put a 180 degree Thermostat for now

If you aren't having the fans turn on, i'd recommend not changing out your thermostat- at least until after you get the issue with the fans straightened out. The thermostat will not help matters here, as your cooling system is not functioning properly as it is. All the thermostat does is regulate the trmperature the coolant gets to before allowing it to flow into the radiator. So, if your radiator isn't cooling the coolant down enough/quick enough, this is the problem- in this case it'* being caused by a lack of airflow over the radiator'* fins- from the fans not turning on.

If you were overheating all the time- and your fans were working as they should, it would be a different story. But, in your case, by changing out your thermostat, all you will be doing is throwing another variable into the mixture, not correcting the issue at all.

Try checking/swapping your relay, testing for voltage to the relay, and check all the fan connections.

Worst case scenerio, you can termporarily wire in a switch to give you control over the fans- but even this isn't a true (or long-term) cure for the issue, and should only be used while you are chasing the source of the problem.


EDIT: Showshocka, I read your other post about the intake manifold issue. I have a feeling that given the situatiuon that you are already in there, dropping in a 180 would not be a bad idea- but don't expect it to be a cure for the fans not kicking on, or running hot while idling(no air cooling the radiator)

San Jose is about an hour away from where i am. The temp there is rather hot. Its hot enough to get the fans going. I would check power to the wires that go to the fans and to the sensor. If the tester doesnt light up.... trace the wires as far as you can to see if you have a bad wire somwhere.

thats the only thing i could think of....sorry...

How do we find out " what the PCM is seeing.”? What is the procedure for that ???
