so is Prestone 'Dex' Extended life ok to use?

That is what I used when I did the UIM, LI gasket , water pump, coolant elbo, ect.

UPDATE....


replaced thermostat, oil change, cleaned coolant res tank, topped off coolant.
Ran for a while..30 minutes. (idle, driving, little highway) and it'* fine!

-The moisture from the short trip driving is gone
-oil looks great
-coolant up where it should be

No coolant smell. Infact you guys are going to kill me when I tell you that the thermostat housing was leaking by the bolts.

That was probably the coolant smell from time to time...the gasket for the thermostat was pushed out/gone by the bolts.

I drove it hard for a while with heat blasting and a while with the A/C on and no over heating problem, of coarse I can’t say that for a fact because my 3 right dash gauges do not work right. But the fan only came on when I would turn on the A/C and would go off when I would turn off the A/C and blast heat for a minute so.... problem fixed.?.

We shall see in the next couple of days or so.

I am no mechanic but I had a similar problem and replaced the heater core. I got so bad that it was blowing steam inside the car so have the mechanic take a look soon. Cost me around 250.00 if I remember

No more coolant smell. And the car seems to be running at normal temp.

Still need gauges fixed/replaced though.

went to Milwaukee and bought an old cluster from Jesse(blownville)
who bought it from Billboost long time ago and never used it.

long story short, i took it apart..pulled out the right three gauges board..and
installed it into my cluster and.....
WOO HOO!!!

my gauges work again


and best of all my car doesn't overheat...yes!

Hey guys, I got a small antifreeze leak to trouble shoot. It is wet on the drivers side, below and aft of the thermostat hose connection and it is not that assembly. It is below the throttle body air inlet and inboard of the exhaust heat shield. I'm reading a lot of "LIM" lower intake manifold ? references... Is that a typical problem area? one end more than the other? Could it be a rusted through freeze out plug? I had one with a pin hole on another car and it was behind the exhaust manifold.
