Default Compressor noise

How do i know i have a compressor in my car i hear it i think on the left side of my vehicle (driver side for the gearheads) but i was jus curious on the noise also how can i get my belt tensior pulley off with out strain??? its makin so much noise i wanna change it

The air compressor would be under the air intake hose, looks like it has a two-cylinder air cooled head on it. Sounds like... an air pump.
The tensioner pulley has one bolt, and it turns the normal direction. They are usually pretty tight. You may need a breaker bar.
