Default Compass problem in 98 SSEi

My compass in my 98 SSEi won’t hold a calibrate for more than a day.

It points to the west all the time now if I don’t calibrate every day.

That’* gets pretty old quick.

Anybody have any suggestion on how to fix this problem?

No subwoofer in the trunk? That'* usually the first question, but I don't see one in any of your pics.

No sub, but I do have a radar detector next to my rear view mirror though.
But this problem with the compass was going on befor I put the detector there.

The detector will have no effect. Any large metal objects in your trunk? Toolbox? Corrosion on the compass unit in your trunk (under the rear deck between the speakers)?

The only thing I have in my trunk is a jump box.
Thanks for the info on where the compass box is though.
Is it easy to clean if there is corrosion or is that when I need to replace it?

Wait a minute, I did put higher powered 6X9s in the trunk about 3 months ago. They have huge magnets.

Those 6X9'* could potentially be your problem. I'd remove them temporarily to see how the compass responds.
