Car through a code yesterday went to Autozone today and got it read. Code was P0440.
States it a malfunctioning evaporater emission part. The tech at Autozone said there is a canister that can be changed out next to the radiator some where. My question is were and how dose it look? Can I do this myself and what type of tools are needed to take it off? How much will the part cost to replace or car I just clean it out and keeep going? The car is a 1998 Bonneville SE. Thanks

Sorry it took so long to respond on this. Didn't really get to do anything about this till today. I purchased a ODB II scanner. Sure enougth; the code P0440 came up. Took the evap canister out along with the sensor that is attached to it. Had already disconnected the negative battery cable. I then went to the auto shop and asked them what was best to start with when checking these things out. His anserw: gas cap. He told me that this was a very common cause of a lot of different faulty codes. So I got a new gas cap and also some tubbing because some of the connections were suffering from dry rot. I put it all back together and went to check the code to try and clear it. The scanner after it re-booted came back and said the car passed. I thought the cade would have been stuck in PCM and need to be cleared. Guess not this time. I won't be able to have the car inspected till next week, but if between now and then the code comes back then we'll see what needs to be done next.

Ok, code P0440 returned. What should I begin to replace next?
