I had an SES light for a couple of days, and it went away yesterday. I pulled a code off of it today and it reads " Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit High Input". Now what? Is this a sensor problem or an actual pressure issue with the engine? Whatever it was has cleared now, but if it arises in the future, I would like to be able to deal with it.
Sometimes it gets fussy about starting, like it'* being choked. Maybe the two are related.

The '97 FSM indicates that it could be:
1. a bad sensor or electrical connections to the MAP sensor or PCM
OR
2. a leaking or plugged vacuum supply to the sensor
Could also be a problem in the PCM but that would be the last thing you would replace.

I am not sure if the two could be related, but so far I haven't found anything that would make me think they are.

There is a connection between the EGR valve and the MAP Sensor...and a leak in vacuum to the EGR can result in hard starts, but the MAP/EGR connection is apparently performed during the drive cycle and not on initial start-up.

ON VIN K engines, there is a seal on the MAP Sensor and the FSM specifically identifies that the seal should be inspected to ensure it is not damaged. Other than that, you should start by inspecting the electrical connections to and from the MAP sensor.

I'm off this weekend, so I'll have a look tomorrow afternoon.

I replaced the MAP sensor, the PCV and the housing a last week and the code cleared... for about 3 days when it came up again. It'* not something that sticks around, though. When I reset the code, it stays away for a while. It hasn't come back a third time, yet.

i have the same code right now and the car is missing bad. have you fixed it yet?

I had a similar code and replaced everything. The code didn't go away until I replaced my LIM gaskets, which were in a terrible state.
