Clunk from driver side rear somtimes going over bumps????
Looking for help from anyone that may have experienced this same problem?
1994 Pontiac Bonneville with 125,000 miles.
There is a Clunk coming from the driver side rear sometimes going over bumps, the funny thing is that, it is more pronounced going over little bumps than large ones??? it sounds very hollow with really no feeling of a direct impact with something, it almost sounds like something rolling around it the trunk. I have checked the exhaust with no visual clearance issues, exhaust hangers are fairly new at about 2 years with a replacemnet exhaust from the cat back. I have checked the trunk and spare tire, everything is tight. I toke the wheel off with no visual obstructions or anything (looking for road kill maybe, who knows?), there was Nothing, it looked clean.
I also tried pushing really hard up and down on the rear of the car and got her moving up and down pretty good, but it doesn't make the noise? I have seen no oil from a blown shock or anything, and it makes the pisssed noise like normal when pressing up and down on the car with good rebound and stops at the normal 3 ups or down to stop.
The weird thing is too that it just started one day last week. I heard it and I was like what was that??. It has been doing it ever since. and it doesn't seem to be getting any better or worse.

As you're likely aware from all of your checks, there are several things that could cause your problem. First thing you may want to check is the heatshield over the muffler. They often rust through where the screws hold them down. If that'* the problem, you can often hear it when you slam the trunk closed.
Other possibilities are: bad strut mounts, ball joints, and alignment link ends. Jack up the car, and try shaking the tire at 3 & 9 o'clock and 6 & 12 and see if there is movement.

My car has the exact same problem. The struts in the back of mine need to be replaced. The strut slams down on any bumb at 5 mph. Really bad w/ passengers. Do you have the computer ride system?
