Default Check Engine light on 99SE

Check engine light came on the other day and I want to pull the codes and dont know how. I know that is OBDII so its different than older cars. Any suggestions on how to do this or where to get it scanned?

I'm sure any local repair shop or dealer can scan for you.

Or most auto parts stores. You need a scantool. Shop around, and you'll find a scan for free. Don't get just the definition. Get the number of the code also, and bring it back here.

I finally got around to getting the code scanned. The trouble code is P0301. The mechanic said its possibly the plugs wires, but want to find out more and what this code means before I start throwing money at the problem.

Close. It'* a Cylinder 1 misfire, which would be (for whoever doesn't know) the cylinder on the front bank closest to the accessories (alt, A/C, etc.) It very well could be a plug wire, how long since you have had them replaced? Might just be tune-up time. Get yourself a good set of Belden premium wires (or something guaranteed) and slap them on there. Easy job.

The wires have about 30k on them and the plugs are original and have 100k on them. I pulled them at 75k and they looked good. Ill replace the plugs and wires and see if the code goes away.

Even the 100K platinums are expected to be pulled and regapped at some point. I went 100K on factory plats before. Gap was about 3 times what it should have been.
