CEL light

I used my scanner on my bonne today to check the CEL light. Retrieved a P1870 "manufacturer contrl. transmission"

anyone know bout this one?

What year and model is your car? Please put that information into your signature like mine..this way we can quickly answer questions easier.

oops, sorry bout that, thought it was in my sig...anyway, it's a 96 SE

I'd like to know the Manufacturer and Model of the scantool, and the physical (general) location where you live.

The code you listed is rather general. Also need to know if you've observed any symptoms relating to your trans.

Come to think about it. Advance got that description (not necessarily code) when my pcm didn't like the fan mod being on when the car started.

Need a FSM to tell what this code really is. Randy's are at his place.

i'm using a actron cp9135 obdII scanner. live in central jersey area. Tranny acts fine, no ill effects. This is a rebuild tranny from about a year ago. it has actually been giving this code since about 3 months after the tranny was done(dec 04), but the car was taken off the road right after that. I just put it back on the road again last week and want to get these issues resolved. thanks for the help!

I believe that P1870 is a code for slip in the tranny... I 'll dig a little more..

The poertrain control module monitors the TCC slip by calculating the diffrence between the engine speed and the transmission output shaft speed, if the PCM detects an excessive amount of slip when the TCC is engaged then DTC 1870 sets...

Action taken when the dtc sets

The PCM inhibits TCC operation
The PCM inhibits 4th gear if the transmission is in hot mode
The PCM illuminates the MIL

Chris..year and model in sig please...... ;)

willwren 09-20-2005 04:48 PM

The CP9135 is a generic code reader if I recall. We need someone with an FSM for 96+ to determine that code's actual definition.

I had the same code pop up on my 97 Transport van on a 5 hour drive a couple of months ago. No driveability issues (other than minor shuddering at about 100 km or 60 mph). I resetted the code and it hasn't come up ever since.

I am concerned about it too. I want to change the transmission fluid to start. Anything else?
