Default Car dies for no apparent reason?

Second time this has happened. First time I thought I was just runnin out of gas. I'll just be cruisin along the road and the whole car powers off. Has anyone had this happen before?

Check your catalytic converter or your alternator.

Yes the catalytic converter will make your car shut off if it is starting to get stopped up. I had a 1986 toyota camry and the cat got stopped and the car would start and go about five miles down the road and then it would just die.

If the car isn't overheating and underpowered, forget the Cat for now. I'd be checking battery and alternator connections. Both hot and ground. Disconnect and clean them all.

YES! It sucks big time. For me it was a little relay or something that cost the GM dealership 70 bucks to order. Stupid punks. But it was the sametime my tranny went out also.

yeah i know about the GM Part houses they are always pretty expensive. The problem I always run into around here is that they can't seem to get the part when they say they will.

I had that happen, turned out to be a loose battery cable.

When you say powers off, can you be more specific. Does it just die and you can still turn it over? Do you have to boost it to get it going? Does it cool down and then restart ( I am going samewhere with this I promise...) Do the headlights still work after it dies?
