At 12.4 volts, that battery is taking a pike. Should be around 12.8 or 12.9 for a good battery.

Your alternator output is fine.

The local auto electric shop guy sells a ton of Delcos and say he'* had maybe two bad ones in ten years. I went with a Delco replacement after my battery died right a 4.5 years.

Why does it matter what a battery looks like?

Marketing ploy. That'* all it is. People see it, are impressed, think it'* superior, then pay the higher price for it!

Vital, any thoughts on which brand gets the best 'guts' inside? I know manufacturers order batteries from you guys to their specs (and pricing), so what do you think is the best bang for the buck out there? Sears? Interstate? Something?
