Default Can't shut off head-lights while in gear.

I can shut off the headlights while in park but as soon as I put it in gear they come on... (not during day though). Is this normal for bonnies? Being able to cut off the lights while driving would be nice so I don't blast my lights into my neighbors bedroom window at 4:00 am.

Welcome to the club.

So what year Bonnewville do you have? Some models (approx 95 and older) had a twilight sentinal that could be adjusted for auto lights on at certain light levels. This was done with a **** behind the headlight pull switch. If it is a newer one they have DRL'* (daytime running lights) and cannot be turned off by a switch. However, there is some info in our "Techinfo" section at the top of the page on how to disable them if this is what you have.

I know how it goes. I leave for work usually right before it gets bright out and when I pull out of my garage I point directly in to the bedroom window of the house across the street. It is nice not haveing to have the lights on, and I'm sure the neighbors appreciate it too.

Ya in my car you can't turn the lights off while in drive. I can turn them off in park but once I put it in drive they turn back on automaticly, you can't stop it.

This sounds like the twilight sentinel is it not?

The sensor reads ambient light level and turns on your headlights while the car is in gear, there is a switch inside the car that turns off the sentinel.

Its a safety feature

This is the Daytime Running Light system. You can find the instructions on how to disable this in the TechInfo section.

Well, it depends. Durring the day it is the DRL'*, but he is asking about night. This is the twilight sentinal. When you turn the key at night full lighting comes on. To kill it while in park you turn the dial behind the headlight **** to min, past the detent. But as soon as you pull the car out of park the lights come on. The way around this is to put a resistor inplace of the photo cell. The cell works on resistance, when you put the resistor in the harness that matches the resistance of the photo cell when it reads light, the car will think it is light out all the time.

To kill the DRL'* remove the ECM cover and look 2-3" infromt of the horn, there is a small white box mounted to the fender, pull the blue/black 2 prongged plug, DRL'* are dead an noone, especially the car, is the wiser.
