just got my 1992 Bonnie SE back from $1200 or more in parts being added to her. Was driving the girlfriends 2000 Blazer while the Bonnie was being worked on and was blessed with air condition for that amount of time. My bonnies AC is expired.

Can i just buy a can of the newer refridgerant and fill the system with it? how do i do it?

Do i need to do a conversion for the new coolant? how do i do that?
Please help me it about 90 degrees out here in Michigan and im sweating even at 80-90mph

I believe you do need the kit. Someone may correct me on this, but I think your system needs to be completely evac'd of all R-12 before any R-134 can be put in.

R134a is the replacement refrigerant for the R12 systems. You need to have all the R12 vacuumed out prior to replacing it with the R134a. You can still get R12 and it'* going to be more expensive than the R134a, but you also have to have a certified AC mechanic top off your system for you. You can't do it at home...unless of course you find some cans of R12.

where can i "find" cans of R12? u think there is still r12 left in the system? what if i get the new refrigerant and add it with out having the rest of the r12 vacuumed out(even though i doubt there is any left in there)? how much are the cans of refridgerant? how much to take it to a shop and pay to have it all done?

You can not buy R12 without a license. You would be better installing R134. Most parts stores sell a kit to change to 134. I don't think you have any R12 left in your system. R12 is going for around 50.00 to 60.00 for a 12oz can. I changed my 1992 Bonnie to R134 back in 2001 with no problems. The kit has all the fittings, hose , oil and the right amount of R134. Just read the info with the kit.

How much did that kit cost?

The kits run about $25 to $40 and are available at most major auto parts stores.
