Brake problem
Hi, I have a 1993 SSE with 215,000 KM on it and about 3 months ago the brake pedal went right to the floor. Sure enough, one of the brake lines had ruptured and was leaking fluid. I took it in to my mechanic and he replaced the brake lines. About two weeks ago, the pedal went to the floor again but if I pumped the brake pedal the car would stop. I could not see any leaks and the fluid in the master cylinder was OK. This time the master cylinder was replaced. This was done yesterday and I thought that would take care of the problem. Once again, the brake pedal has gone all the way to the floor and once again if I pumped the brake pedal, the car would stop. Both times the pedal has gone to the floor, I had just started the car and was going very slowly. This is obviously a problem I must get fixed right away. Is it because the brakes were not bled properly? Anybody else have this problem? I appreciate any advice.

I didn't check but I am assuming the mechanic did. The problem with the pedal going to the floor is intermittent. Yesterday, I pushed hard on the pedal while the car was idling and I could slowly push it to the floor. About 1/2 way through pushing the pedal, I felt the pedal give a little and heard a slight thump.

Keep an eye on your brake fluid level. It almost sounds like it is still leaking fluid. You may want to (or your mechanic) to inspect all the brake lines, cylinder, and valves to make sure there is no leak at all. It doesn't take a very big leak to make the pedal feel so limp.

I check all fluid levels regularly and I have never noticed the brake fluid being low. Could there be a vacuum leak somewhere or a problem with the booster?

Dont assume that the mechanic checked the wheel cylinders. Pull your drums and look to be sure. Throughly inspect the brake lines, especially around the ABS module. If everything is dry and there is no fluid loss, then your ABS module may be at falt. Try unplugging it and see if the problem stops. I had a 92 S10 Blazer that would do that. It was my ABS module. They are really expensive, so I just unplugged mine. Im not a real big fan of ABS anyway.

Well I just went and checked the hose that comes out of the booster and I am sure there is aleak around the seal as I could feel air come out if I moved it around a little bit. Could this be the source of my problem and if it is, is it a n easy fix? Thanks.
