A/C Compressor Clutch Replacement, Has Anyone Done This YET!
On my 95 Bonneville, the pulley clutch bearing is bad. It makes a very raspy noise while the compressor is off, but once the compressor turns on then the noise goes away. The A/C blows super cold!!! My friend said that its very easy to replace the pulley clutch bearing. I priced one out, and found it to be less than $10.00 for the bearing itself. Autozone rents the clutch puller. I was wondering how difficult this job is any if anyone had tempted this before.
are u sure bearing is causing the noise . I had a noise coming from my ac also when ac off. It was the outer plate touching the ac drive pulley when off. It barely touched but would cause noise. There are 3 spring bars that pull it away. I pried the outer plate away from drive pulley near each of the spring bars giving it about a 1/16 " now between pulley and clutch drive plate. now no more noise and ac works fine.

My 90 bearing went out so it was not even drivable.
The under hood sticker showed a dotted line for bypassing the ac so I installed the shorter belt and ran it for about 2 yrs. This was a mistake as this shorter belt took out my water pump which jumped the belt and took out my crank sensor = stuck on side of road.
Spent a couple hrs at Auto Zone with their tools and the ac clutch wouldn't come off no way no how (PITA).
You have to get the clutch off first with an internal screw in puller, then remove the snap ring, then pull the pulley and bearing assembly.
Finally got P.O.ed and went to the Junk yard and got the whole compressor.
Even the garages I talked to said they don't touch them other than installing a rebuilt compressor.
In my opinion if I had to do it again and had the money I would just buy a rebuilt compressor.
