Default broken ball joint

Hi there, long time lurker, first time poster.

Yesterday my rear passenger side ball joint broke on my '95 Bonneville. I've by now removed most of it, but the socket that holds the grease will not budge from the control arm. My question is: is the ball joint supposed to be easily separated from the control arm as a separate part from control arm, or is it supposed to be welded to the arm? I think it may be that the rust has joined the two together.

Why I ask this is, my father and I have been taking turns trying to remove the remainder of the joint from the arm without luck. Below are some pictures I took of the situation.

It should press out with a ball joint tool (press). A BFH doesn't work very well.
