my wife is complaining that her headlights aren't bright enough, should i change to a silverstar low and high beam and when i do replace them do i have to take of any of the stuff on top of the headlight assembly to get at them, i'm trying to do the things that i've been putting off for the year since we got the car. angier is about 30 miles from fayetteville

I'd go for the silverstars for the low beams and "cool blue" sylvania'* for the high beams. Also, if you really want to make your wife happy, replace the stock fog lights with aftermarket round ones. I have Hella Optix Angel Eyes and I could damn near run them by themselves at night.

Also might/should check the allignment of the headlight beam

Silverstars are great, but if you are on a budget, you can get some Wagner Xenon lights for a fraction of the cost, even though they aren't NEARLY as bright. They do offer an improvement over the stockers.

If you really want to make them bright, you can use the high beam bulb in the low beam socket. You just switch them around. If you want something more permanent, I broke the tab off my 9005 silverstar high-beams, and was able to run them in both plugs, high and low.

yes your headlights have 2 large thumb screws and then the headlight just lifts out. just twist out the old one and put the new one in. just make SURE that you dont touch the bulb, that will shorten the life. And yes upgrade to a driving light that will help 10000%

your aim could also be at fault

I bought Silverstar 9005s for the brights, and they aren't much brighter at all. It was a waste of money. They're only "whiter." If your lenses haven't been replaced, they're probably fogged up enough to really inhibit the light. I have one new lens, and the difference between it and the old lens is twice as much as the difference between halogens and silverstars.

Silverstars emit whiter light, which has a straighter wavelength pattern.
Look for something that has a higher wattage but still has the clear glass on the capsule. With the "yellow" light it will illuminate more without the glare that other colored light has.

The reflective surfaces could be corroded or faded as well. The best upgrade I did to my last car was replace both headlight assemblies. The difference was quite amazing.

Silverstars are an improvement but will not help much if the assemblies are faded.
