Brake questions
Ok so I was going to do the brake on my roomates car it is a 92 bonny se nothing special, i got under there yesterday and found out that i dont have the socket for the job does anyone know the bolt patern for the caliper bolt? is it a 1/4 allen or a 60 torx or a star bit? any info would be helpful. I called the pontiac 800 number and asked them they said they had to research it and they would call back, i got the call back and they said they didn't have and answer to go online or call a dealer. I dont have much faith in a manufacturer that doesnt even know that part they use on their cars. After hearing that i dont think ill be buying a pontiac anytime soon. but either way got to fix this one. thanks Eric
yea thats what i thought i put on the 1/4 allen and it fits i just dont want to use the allen and accidently strip the bolt, i call call a different dealer here in colorado they said that its a torq 45 socket i think there right im gonna pick on up after work and finish today after i get off, i was reading on another post about breaks and some on said that they got the caliper off fine but could not get the other 2 bolts off to replaced the rotor what part is that with the other 2 bolts? I would assume they are the same bolts as in the calliper but not sure any ideas?
thats how 90% of the break are that i have dont take off the caliper bolts take caliper and hang off the arm and the rotor is free, i have never work on and pontiac, iv done saturns VW jetts ford Explorer, most just had bolts and nuts except the ford it had pins no big deal, i didn't think there was any other parts other than the caliper i might have gotten confused from the post i read and it might not have been the right year of car. thanks for the info gents, i also used some of the wd 40 that lossens corrosion arround the threads last night hopefully that will make the job easier, i dont have a lift or jack stands and am not tying to put to much pressure on the jack while doing the caliper bolts, is it safe to do off a jack or should i get some stands?
When I got my hex tool for brakes, I walked into the parts store and said "I'm looking for the tool I need to remove the calipers on..." The guy behind the counter said "GM?", me: "Yes". He reached behind him, grabbed the bit for my ratchet, and I was on my merry way. I still ain't sure exactly what size it is....
