When you insert your ignition key and attempt to start the car, will the car not even attempt to crank over?
yes that is what happens

thats the most likely thing , could i have cooked a fuse ?

By all means check all your fuses. Rule out the easy stuff first. Then, read the rest of the thread I sent to you. It moves beyond the symptoms and tells you how to fix the problem; by bypassing the VATS.

Can you hear any clicking when you turn the key to the start position? You may have fried the solinoid.

I'm leaning towards fuse and solenoid also might have a ground gone sour. I can't think of too many other things that would start out okay and then end this badly.

Hang in here guys.

The first post says the engine cranks normally. The second post quotes engine doesn't crank over and the statement of yeah that'* what happenes accompanies it.

We need confirmation. Is the starter clicking, turning the engine over or doing nothing?

In 98 the VATS will allow the starter to engage and turn the motor over, the car will start and run for 2-5 seconds before the cylinder fuel prime is burnt off. The injectors are disabled by the VATs in 98.
