Default so THATS what makes that niose

My car also makes a strange noise when the throttle is goosed at low speeds.
After my modest modifications, the noise was a little easier to produce.
After reading this thread last night, I decided to do a little experiment this morning. I turned off the traction control, and the noise disappeared! Ha! All this time I was worried about c/v joints, motor mounts, whatever.... I couldn't listen under the hood because the noise only occured while under brisk acceleration at low speeds.
Thanks guys.

Got the same noise and it'* been drivin me nuts!!! I suspected the supercharger in my SSEi but, after slipping the belt off the */C and tying it out of the way, still have the same noise. i got a recent tip that is my next target for analysis. The harmonic balancer. Supposed to be a weak link and causes eveything from an ugly noice and a vibtation that'* hard to pin down. A new balancer is about a $100 bucks and I'm gonna give it a try this weekend I'll let you know if it solves the problem.

The first time I stomped on my SSEi I was giving a friend a lil ride the second day I owned it. I stomped on it and I heard a noise like the engine was about to blow right there, I was so embarrased. A little thinking and I realized it was the Traction Control...

Could be the HVAC blower motor or the a/c compressor.

well it shouldn't be the harmonic balancer. I had that replaced a couple of years ago, and it'* not the same sound.

could you expain to me what the HVAC blower moter does, and why it would make this noise when i steped on the gas hard. Now remeber when i keep it down it finally stops after a while. usually when it goes into second or a little after.

I know it'* not the traction, becuase it does it when i have plenty of traction. I'm still leaning toward the power stearing pump. But i'm gonna have someone look at it soon.

Ok Finally got paid. Anyone else got any guesses on what it is making the noise. I'm taking it in to have it worked on soon. Here are the symptoms agian. First off, it is not the tractions control or the harmonic stabilizer. When i step on the gas when the car is stoped or close to it it makes a grrrrrr. noise that goes away around second gear. It doesnt make this noise at all in reverse. If i'm turining and hit the gas, seems to do it worse. It doesn't make the noise when i'm turning without hitting the gas. Noise allways comes from the pully side of the engine. The best guess so far i think is the power steering pump.
