Default Bad highway vibration

The 97 LSS has a very bad vibration on the highway after 65 mph and gets worse with increased speed. The wheel feels loose and vibrates a lot. I've also noticed with this car as well as the 93' at low speeds there is a slight bouncing feeling associated with squeeks coming from the front tires. The most agrevating this is the highway vibration though. Any thoughts to the cause?

Sounds like one of two things to me. Either a missing wheel weight, or a bad wheel bearing. Jack up each front wheel, and wobble the tire by hand. You should be able to determine if it'* a wheel bearing.

Inspect for missing weights if you haven't washed lately (the car), and try rotating the fronts to the back and see if the problem changes.

typical balance problems usually start in about 65 and stop around 85, but if its something else you may not want to test that theory...but my tires goes out of balance alot(14 miles of gravel roads a day will do that) but if your gutsy, try seeing if it smooths out at higher speeds...or wait for a more professional opinion.

HI i have a similar probelm with my 97 se.....was thinking it could be the tires...uniroyal tiger paws...with unknown mileage on them....also was thinking it could be the torque convertor...i hear they vibrate...just before they explode and take out the tranny.. ,....let me know what you find out....

I had that problem on my old 95 SSE. It wasn't a terrible vibration, but it was there from about 55 to 80. I had my tires balanced, and they were fairly new too. I had my suspension looked over, and everything was in good shape. The problem was fixed a little, but I never really figured out what was causing the vibration.

The 93' has the problem with the torque converter, the 97 does not. Where are the wheel weights located, I looked and couldn't find them. I don't think that it is a wheel bering because there is no hum. I had the wheel barings replaced on the 93' and that didn't reduce the shaking or the the squeeking at low speeds. The 97' has the worst shaking and makes me feel as though I have little control. The 97' has magnasteer just like the SSEi. Do you think it could be a steering problem since the wheel shakes pretty bad?
