Yeah, I love my moonroof. I'll never get another Bonne without one.

The ones that slide on top don't look that great anyway, and at least our glass is protected while it'* open since it slides into the roof. I wonder why they were different on the GPs and the Bonnes...

Mine was added later and I will tell you now that the aftermarket moon roof is not a cheap endeavor and the motors are a bit suspect. Usually it’* the switch that becomes an issue. If I were you I would find a wreaked car with a stock unit and pull it and get a shop to install it. Make sure you get a very good shop to do the deal.

I agree with all the above and Speedyguy about a good factory one out of a wreak. Because you'll need the headliner. I havent seen a 90'* gen H body without moonroof but I do know on the 80'* Olds98'* and Buick Park Aves the moonroof equiped cars have a different headliner with the dip in it to allow for the room for the electric roof to slide down into. In other word it has less headroom. Our LSS has a diped headliner so I assume the non sunroof equiped cars have a normal contoured headliner ?

WHICH brings us to the answer to the question of why dont the W bodys have the better roof (inside stored). Because they dont have the headroom to spare. Thats my guess anyhow.

Big job and would take some speciality body tools like a nibler. Also drain tubing must be put down the windshield posts. Big job.

The cheaper pop up with removable glass might save some work but you still need a way to cut the hole without damaging the roof and paint. Most people have said they start leaking after awhile. They dont have channels and channel drains. I am going to put one of these in my old Olds 88 but I have lots of tools and time to waste

Check this type out it'* called a rag-top. it slides back and kinda folds up just above the back window on the roof. you can get them in many colors too.....look around.

I believe a sunroof is steel (or at least opaque); a moonroof is glass. Ergo, the Bonneville has a moonroof. Whether it slides into the roof or over the roof is not the determining factor; that'* just an engineering issue based on the shape of the car.

My wife used to have a '72 Buick Skylark Sun Coupe, which was a limited-edition Skylark with a soft sliding sunroof made of black vinyl like a convertible top, similar to the photo that somebody else posted further up in this discussion. You'd unhook the front edge, grab the front crossbar of the sunroof and just slide it straight back, and the top would fold up accordion-style.

Great car; too bad she tried to push a railroad overpass with it one night.

The factory moonroof in the '93 can either pop up (i.e. back edge opens upward a couple of inches) or slide completely back into the roof, whichever way you want to have it.

Dad'* '83 BMW 528e power sunroof (sheet metal instead of glass) can do the same thing.
