I'm having trouble with my a/c system also ,but not the same as the other topic below. I discovered that the compressor clutch was not engaging so , naturally , the first think I did was to jump across the low press. safety switch . To my dismay , that still didn't make it engage. I do have gauges and so I went ahead and connected the low pressure line and the system does have pressure (about 85 psi) . I decided to hotwire the clutch directly to the battery to see if this was the problem . The clutch engaged this time . I checked the large fuses on the firewall and they were OK. Guys , am I having a problem with the switch in the dash or is it something else ? By the way , once the compr. came on , I did find the freon to be low but the line coming out of the back of the accumulator was getting cold . This system hasn't been touched since new so I'm sure that it'* got to be low after 13 years ! Not bad GM ! Thanks for all input

I had the same problem on my 93 SSEi...It turned out to be the relay located in the maxi fuse panel under the hood...I replaced the relay and It works like a charm... Hope this helps....Keep us posted.

IIRC that relay in the bank of relays is the same as others next to it. So you can switch one for the other to see if it is the relay without replacing by buying a new one. Just switch ones with the same part number obviously.

Yes, many have found the relay to be malfunctioning over the years. It'* well worth looking at before scanning to see if the pcm is commanding the AC on.

Which one of those maxi fuses is the A/C?

2nd relay in from the passenger side if I remember correctly.

Ok guys, I've tried swapping relays around and got nothing . Question : if the system is a little low in freon will it not come on at all or would it at least cycle if the relay was the issue ? I'm thinking it would at least kick on for a few seconds . I've seen on the other posts about scanning the PCM to see if it'* commanding the a/c on . Do I just need a regular OBDII scan tool for this or something else ? As always - thanks for all answers!!!
