Default Alternator replacement

Hi everyone,

New member here, and new owner (as of Jan 24). Had a problem today were my alternator died. Now unfortunatly, I am not aware of my model, I know that it is a 95 w a V6, but beyond that, I am not sure right now.

My question is if the alternator can be easily removed for replacement, and if not, what are the major steps that need to happen?

I heard that some of these cars need to the motor to be loosed and move slightly to change an alternator, I was wondering if that was true.

An help would be great...hope to tackle it on monday....

Thanks everyone,

Well let me start with this...Please include a signature in your profile..This will help to indentify with model , year and trim package of bonneville you have...You can also add your car "state"...ie stock, modified etc..

As for the Alt., are you sure it IS the Alt...you can have it tested for free at AutoZone...BUT our cars ARE notorious for tearing up alt'*..

As far as re-placing it...fairly easy..

Disconnect neg. battery cable...
Remove serp. belt(*) (2 if you are */c)
Disconnect power lead wire from behind alt.
Loosen and remove alt bolts
Remove alt..

Thanks about it..

DID I MISS ANYTHING GUYS!!! (WILL)

Um, not on my '93. I only needed to remove the belt driving the alternator; I was able to leave the other one alone. (Yes, I'm sure; I've done it three times so far... )

Yup. Alts are easy. No more than 30 minutes taking your time, with minimal tools.
