If you want a sneaky way to hold voltage up and in reserve, Danthurs wrote a tech info on the "alternator sensor wire". It will give you .5v+ on the active power bands.
From experience, all is wasted if your battery isn't operating maximumly, though. If the alt is busy charging a fat battery all of the time, it cannibalizes on-demand reserves from the charge circuit. A big thug 1000CCA battery (Optima isn't necessary) is a good choice. IMHO, that'* a brutish combo to power an N/A with.
One note, if you have after market sound gear. Sony and a couple of other manufacturers' receivers (i think you guys call them head amps) get a little weird as you get up towards 15v.

If I remember right, Rich'* Park Ave Ultra has the 140A alternator. It had it in his RPO listing.

I've had this on the back of my mind for a while, putting in an alternator from a newer 3800 that has the pins for heated windshield washer fluid. I believe those are also higher amp than the standard alternator. Possibly the 150A. I really want that heated windshield washer fluid!

there are websites that you can place an order and get ones custom built to push up to like 220 amps.....heres the link

If it was physically possible, you could take the alternator off a locomotive and wire it into your car with no worries.
