alright long weekend, time to try and fix some problems
alright guys im goin out to do some tinkering with her , and ill report back , i haven't even had the engine cover off yet , maybe back with some pics if u dont mind my dirty car
im on dial up, ill do my best with the pictures
between London and Chatham, its about an hour either way
alright after some fooling around , i found out this : my dog loves the smell of my interior hehe, when i shut the car off it lets a breath out (seems like it anyway), i pulled the air filter, i think it could be the original with how dirty it is (im sure its not the original). when i rev the car up to say 3000rpm+ and let off it has a small pop sound , kinda like a really really really small back fire ... its hard to explain , pulled the plastic engine cover , started wiggling things and checking connections , nothing out of the ordinary.
i cant check the spark plugs cuz my dad took MY tools up to the cottage with them and i think hes has all the spark plug sockets with him .
when the car is warmed up is just 1000rpm id say about 1100rpm were idle is at , seems a bit high to me ( this is in park idle)
starting my shopping list, anyone have a favorite spray can of stuff to use to check for vacuum leaks ?
trying to think what else i should check for .

London and Chatham are only an hour apart, so if you have an hour to get to either one you must be north of them. Petrolia? Reason I ask is because I am in Windsor and can scan your car for you. Sounds like you are a little far though.
good to know the popping sound is normal
alright goin out for breakfast , then geting an air filter, plug wires and shop manual , maybe some other goodies

EDIT: I see someone mentioned vacuum leak in an earlier post.
Check the rubber tube to the heater control reservoir on the back firewall. The tank is blended it like a part of the relay center.
Check other rubber tubes everywhere near ends for cracks or softening.
I'd rather see you buy a Helm factory service manual (what GM sells you in the owners glovebox manual) from Ebay for the 1998 than a Haynes. The factory manual is good just for reading to learn how things work.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1998-...sQ5fLiterature
$24 plus shipping.
Page listing a bunch of them:

This is what they look like. Three volumes. The early volumes don't have the Second Edition printed on them. There were some changes after I'd had mine a while (bought as soon as car was delivered) and one day a box of new manuals showed up on my doorstep, free from Helm.
So fi they don't say that, they may have a few errors in them, but they're more than usable, in my opinion.
I threw out the original set--didn't know I could see things like that on Ebay.

The Hayes manuals you get from the auto parts stores are OK, if you doing small stuff. But like the last post pointed out, a FSM is the best manual you can get. It covers everything about your car, instead of trying to cover a whole bunch of different cars.
damn it , i just paid the money for a Hayes manual , ahh oh well , i got an air filter and some injector cleaner , im guessing since the car sat for a month or 2 the injectors could be gummed up . i also got some carb cleaner so i can start looking for vacuum leaks now too .
