Can anyone tell me if this is too corroded? A couple of the contacts hav some stuff on them though. How would I clean that? Does the outside of the box matter?

That isn't an airbag sensor. That'* a control module.
The contacts don't look too bad, but that sucker obviously lived in water from a leaky door seal for awhile. Keep in mind that we've had a member who had his airbags deploy because of this.
I suspect the water and corrosion has migrated INSIDE the box. I wouldn't bother with it.
FYI, I have the same problem on my SLE. It was that way when I bought it. I disconnected it until I get around to pulling the seat again and find a cheap replacement.

I pulled the connections from both airbags, and the control module is out. Is there still a chance of deployment?

Okay sorry about that.
Back to the control module, is that the same as the SDM unit? if so, the p/n for the 97 should be 9378226, correct?
Also, how would I clean the connections on the wiring harness? Electrical contact cleaner?
Thanks

You can try spray contact cleaner in there, then inserting and removing a few times to see if that cleans it up. Badly corroded ones may need more work. If it'* a sealed plug, and is bad, it may need to be replaced (sorry - not familiar with the type from your year). If it is open in the back, the connections are generally held in with a raised part that clicks into the plastic to hold it in. Pushing in on the wire a bit, and getting something like a dental pick inside to push in on that raised part will allow it to pull out. Then you can clean it up.
