93SSEI Hot Start Problem
Hi, New to the Forum. I did a search and could not find an answer to my problem.
93 SSEI with 255k miles. Starts cold and runs fine. If I stop the engine when the car is hot, hot day. When I try to restart It will not fire unless I push the gas pedel down about 3/4 of the way while cranking the engine. It seems like a carburated car with vapor lock. Once the engine fires the idle is high like the IAC is way open about 2500 Rpm. The idle comes down to normal in about 10 seconds. The engine then runs fine.
This is not a new problem. I have just lived with it. Things replaced that have had no effect:
All 3 Coil packs, (one died replaced them all).
CAT Replaced with exhaust front pipe.
Battery / too many alternators to count.
Fuel tank pick up / fuel gauge sender unit.
Harmonic ballencer. (several years ago)
This is my backup daily driver.
Sorry for the long post I tried to supply as much revelent information as possable.
Thanks in advance!
Rick

FPR?
Thanks for the responce. One of the guys at work sugested that I check the fuel pressure when in this condition. From your responce, you are thinking that there is a small hole in the diaphram of my FPR that is a problem when it is heat soaked.? I will chek. I should also see a leak with a vacumm pump? I will order one tomorrow just to have it around. (I like to keep spare part around).
Thanks again! I will post results.

Posts like a Ricer Type-R
Fuel pressure would be good to check also, as the pump will get weak when hot, but you would normally notice that while driving as well.
The FPR, if it leaks, will saturate the LIM with fuel, causing you to try to start too rich. By holding the throttle to the floor, you can command the injectors not to fire during restart, and you can 'flush out' the pooled fuel in the LIM, then start normally.
I'd bet that'* where your problem lies.

Hot Start Problem continued
Well, I have done a lot of work since my last post:
New 180 Deg thermostat. The old one was a 180 deg but, the car was running hot, almost ot the red zone. I drilled a small 3/32" hole in the new one. The car now runs MUCH cooler.
I installed a new FPR and cleaned the throttle body, (it was a mess!) An FYI in cleaning the throttle body. The GM top engine cleaner spray does a great job! I also replaced all trans and engine cooler lines. No more marking my spot.
As for the hot start problem it is still there. It does seem to be less now that the engine runs cooler. I think it is fuel vaporising in the fuel rail when the car heat soaks. To exibit the proble the car has to sit for about 15 minutes when it is hot outside, 90 deg +. If it is cooler than that or the engine is not running for less that 5 Minutes the engine fires up with no problem.
I also read the codes in the computer. The check engine light comes on intermintly. The codes I read are 13, 54 and 55. O2 sensor open and EGR solenoids 2 and 3. The check engine light does not effect how the car runs it is just annoing.
Sorry for the long post.
Regards
