Default Air Conditioner

Okay, all I know for sure is that I need a new compressor clutch, and probably bearings (they were grinding before I bypassed the pulley). Is this fairly easy to replace, or at least to have done at a shop? Other than that I think it just needed a freon recharge.

If not, what am I looking at as far as total A/C replacement? Some place quoted $1000 for replacement. That sounds a bit high to me...

In 92, if I'm not mistaken that had the old R-12 Freon. That'* more expenive than R-134, therefore maybe conversion may be in place.

As for the price to replace the complete A/C system installed, if it'* all new parts that they're adding then that price is very reasonable, if it'* used parts, than you could probably knock a few hundred off. Depends on whether it'* been done at a dealer or not.

Thanks, I ended up getting the whole unit replaced, and I took it to this wonderful little middle-eastern shop that'* been down the street from my parent'* house pretty much since they've lived there (24+ years). They got a new unit, converted it to R-134, and replaced it all, also recharging the freon/oil.

Grand total... $445.

Now THAT'* a bargain! hehe. It'* so cool now! yay! ^_^

When you say whole unit, are you referring to the

Compressor
Clutch
Evaporator
Condensor
Lines
Drier
Seals
Controls
etc?

It had to be just the whole compressor and clutch assembly he was talking about, I would think. That'* still not a bad deal at all.
