Before going any further, you need to understand that YOUR engine does not have the UIM problem. Even if you are one of the very few 92'* with the plastic UIM, the upper manifold problem started with the redesign in 95. Your LOWER gaskets might be an issue with age and mileage by now though.

Second thought. Before any further troubleshooting, please disconnect the battery cables and pull the boots off. Completely off. Tell us how much corrosion you find, or better yet, take a pic and post it.

Bill, his title says "98 SE won't start", not his 92

If you would of read my post you would of seen I already replaced the battery. And I've already had this problem so it was one of the first things I checked. And if you would of read my post you would of seen I was talking about my 98. This happens in a lot of posts I make even if I include what year it is too.

New starter is going in tomorrow (monday)

Thank you for the EDIT above. Please CLEARLY state this in the future. Topic titles are sometimes overlooked when people are fixated on your rather obvious signature.

Check the battery cables regardless. And pull your plugs and smell them. In fact, shoot a pic of them and post it.

Does anyone know how to get the ******* piece of plastic off that goes around the starter and get in the way of removing the bolt? I've been trying at it for the last half hour and I can NOT get it off, and I do not see ONE screw holding it on.

Why would a sig pic of my 98 make people think I'm talking about my 92?

Some people see the number 92 in your sig and totaly miss the fact that there is a 98 grill staring at them. and others see your name and assume that is the car your talking about. Don't worry though, I am paying attention... Carry on sir.

Post was pretty clear to me....

I'm not sure of the proper procedure to remove that piece. However the proper way in my opinion is grab it with the biggest pliers you have and yank. Optional part on my car.

New starter installed and it runs great! Bill - That plastic piece is now optional on my car too, it shattered when I pulled on it with pliers
