The Crank variation learn sequence also known as Case Learn.... Its where they go in with a scantool and do a Crank sensor learn procedure... This will give the PCM( Powertrain Control Module ) The information it needs to know the true position of the Crank... If it does not know the true position of the crank the PCM will not be able to determine the correct timming, correct fuel timming, or be able to detect missfires... This can also cause driveability issues...

Weather or not that is your problem remains to be seen... But do make sure that those cables are clean and happy as they can cause a handfull of issues..

Also weather or not the SES light is on, it may be a good idea to have the codes read just incase there are any that do not set off the SES...

Thru this bag full of problems I have had the codes read. The only one that has come up has been knock sensor. After I replaced the knock sensor and found the bad plug wire, I had the codes cleared. The check engine light has not come on since that time, yet I guess there could still be new codes. I'm off this week, I'll take it down and have them read the codes and do the learning sequence.

So you're still having trouble after cleaning the battery cables?

Battery cable to be replaced today, I'll update when finished. What makes the battery cable sound even more likely, my ammeter bounces when the turn signal is on or the brake pedal is pressed.

While you are there..please....please remove the boots and check all the battery cables for corrosion etc.

Well, it's done...I replaced the main cable to the power center and I removed the boot on the other and cleaned.....they are clean and bright. I drove the car for 10 miles or so, the ammeter still pulsates with the brake or turn signal, but the rich start contition seems like it may be better. I'll need a few more miles under my belt before I say for sure that it's better. As for the stalling, it may be two weeks before I know if it quits again.

What about the grounds? Black cables, BOTH ends?

I did clean up the ground at the battery as well but dahhhhhh.... I didn't do the ground end, I guess that's next.

I just crawled out from under this thing as I have just replaced the oil pan gasket. During the engine swap, the pan got dented, as with most vehicles that I have owned, if you disturb the oil pan, it will leak. Fortunately for me, the Bonneville pan comes off easily. I had changed the gasket on the original engine too, I pushed the floor jack just a hair too far under the car and it dinged the pan...guess what.....it leaked.

The car is in the garage, but it's a rainy day here in PA. Between the water running off of the car and the fact that I just cleaned the garage floor after the pan gasket swap, I'll wait for things to dry a little.

Have not cleaned the ground wire to the chasis yet...that's next. Well, the symptoms have changed since the new cable and cleaning the terminals, now the check enging light came on! I guess that could be a good thing??? I'm going to take it to the installer tomorrow to see what code came up.
