97 SE random multiple misfire problem
my check engine light came the other day on my way to school in the morning to i took it to my auto tech class and scanned it and it said random multiple misfire. i cleared the light but it came back on again a couple days later. it doesnt do it in any specific occasion or weather, it just does it sometimes. it kind of sputters too. and when the light first comes on it flashes for awhile then just stays on. any ideas?

There'* a couple checks I've had luck with.
Make sure no plug wires are touching the O2 wiring or sensor. Somehow the current messes with the O2 and causes fueling issues that can cause misfires. And fuel pressure may be an issue.
I'm also with the guys on coil testing, although it'll usually tell you one specific coil if it'* only one.

I havent tested the coils or wires or plugs yet. I might do that in school tomorrow. And im not sure about when the last tune up was. I bought the car about 4 months ago. havent done one myself yet but it is about time for an oil change any ways. I was also thinking about running a thing of fuel injector cleaner through it. i was wondering though what u recommend to do for a tune up? what fluids to change, what to check, etc. i would prefer to do it all myself as i have an auto shop class with all the tools i need so i can do it all at school and save a bunch of money. thanks for all the help. ill let you know about the coils and wires.

You can get a can of seafoam. 1/3 in a smaller vac line, the remaining 2/3 can in the fuel tank. Do this outside, it will smoke like crazy. Do this before you do a oil change.

checked all the coils today. all 3 secondaries came out to 6.0 and the primaries were all .9 they are all stock coils still. are those readings good? they were all consistent at least. i also bought a can of seafoam and plan on running that through it tomorrow. i have noticed that since i cleared the code and SES light last time it hasnt come back on yet. it hasnt done it on a regular basis, just randomly.
