97 SE HELP!!!

My car just died. My gas guage doesn't work but I have 250 miles on the trip. I do not hear the fuel pump at all and it used to be very noticeable. If I ran this out of gas is there a reset for the pump somewhere? Where is the is fuse for the pump located? Thanks for all the help

I expect the fuse would be in the fuse panel above the driver's footwell. There should be a label inside the lid telling you which circuit is which.

I did not see one for the fuel pump

It should be #6 on the passenger side.

97 SE HELP!!!

If the fuse is ok is there a reset button somewhere ? Would the pump just quit when the car is running?

There is no reset for the fuel pump (unlike Fords).

You will have any one of these issues:

1)Blown fuse. BUT...there is a reason why it blew, so you will need to find out why if this is the case.

2) Dead relay. This is entirely possible.

3) Dead pump....again, entirely possible

4) Dead PCM....least likely, but still possible.

Running out of gas on fuel injected cars is generally a bad thing. The fuel actually cools the pump down, and if run too long w/o fuel or low fuel, it will kill the pump prematurely.

Bad ground is another possibility. http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...=article&k=102

If you did run it out of fuel, don't just put in a gallon and try to start it. That will rarely work. It usually takes several gallons to get the fuel pumping again.

Thanks so much for the info. If the fuse is ok is there a way to check if its the relay or the pump?

sandrock 02-20-2008 09:58 PM

99 percent of the time, there is always a way to check something for malfunctions ;)

Before we go into ways of checking, we need to know...do you have, or have access to, a DMM (digital multimeter)? That is something that I think newborn baby boys should come equipped with
