Thank you for the update but i can assure you your missing thermostat will not cause your car to knock.It could even be a bad harmonic balancer i forgot about that....Grab the serpitine belt WITH THE CAR NOT RUNNING and move it back and forth as quick as you can..like as if it were spinning..if you hear knocking its the harmonic balancer..
