Default 95 bonne trans differential problems

I had a 95 bonn since 99 and recently i've been having tranny problems withing the last 3 mnths my extension housing has broke twice the first time for no reason it seems this second time my diff broke on the pinion gears well only one gear im trying to figure out why theres no other problem with the tranny its a 4t60e and keeps breaking on the rear end of the trans the shops tell me i need a new tranny for $2,000 or a rebuild for $1,200 but i plan on rebuilding myself the shop tried to tell me i had metal in my trans but after taking the diff out theres really no way for metal to go into the tranny the differential is isolated i think it maybe something else im looking towards the axle but am not sure its starting to happen over and over whats going on

let me be a little clearer broken housing both 16 tooth diff gears fine but 1 broken connecting gear and the other connecting gear is fine the pin itself has a seperate lock
pin to prevent movement nd was hard as hell to release but main pin was intact just some scaring where the 10 tooth gear broke

any comments or solutions please

Mine had the SAME problem. The diff pin broke the first time and wore around the entire differential housing finally breaking it, leaking all the fluid out, and burning up the trans. I had it rebuilt, and the same thing happened not even a month later. They welded my old diff pin inside the differential the first time, and the second time (which was free) they just replaced it with a brand new GM unit. The guy also told me he had never seen it before.. If you ask me though, its the ungodly 260 ft-lbs of torque :P j/j

thats great, welding the differential pin in place will bring down driveability because it locks the movement of your tires. None the less the differential pin usually isnt what goes, the roll pin gives usually causing the differential pin to slide out of place. The most common problem is spinning your tires, when you spin your tires, well really one tire it puts excessive torque on the roll pin which wasnt designed to take that torque.

Moral of the story is, Not many shops would think of welding the differential pin as a solution to the problem.
