Default 93 SE 160kmiles Transmission problems

In the morning i have problems engaging the transmission, i shift into the D with the circle and nothing, so i started to shift into 1 where i can hear the transmission engage, then drive. thats the first problem ive had, mostly happens in cold weather. Checked fluid levels its correct.

Im the second owner and its approx 3 years in my possession, i dont know when the last transmission flush was done.

The more serious problem is when im driving and come to a stop light is that the car seems to slip into neutral and if i give it gas it does not move obviously. I then have to go to a complete stop and wait for it to catch again. This has happened twice last night alone, cold snowy weather.

Also having starting problems where if i dont turn the key in the ignition the right way it just doesn't start , battery is about two years old and reads 14 when the car is started on the voltmeter or whatever.

thanks for help

Did you check it hot, with the engine running? Run threw all gears and then put in park Makes a big difference.

When was the last time the trans filter was changed? It may be getting plugged.

I dont know last filter change .as im wondering if that is my problem according to the symptoms my car is showing. Someone else posted same thing a few posts down but hasn't stated if the symptoms went away after a filter change and trans fluid flush.

The starting problem is odd as well.

My wifes van would sometimes not go into gear when cold. After I changed filter and fluid the problem went away.

Cool, now i have the question on types of flushes, do it myself, shop, or dealer with their pump machines and have to worry about any metal shavings that are in there from previous flushes or is that just a myth. And do i really need a pump to get all of it out or is a simple drain and change good.

Any shavings will be cought by the magnet on the pan. Go to a auto shop like autozone and get some flush, and 2 large jugs of the correct fluid, they are different. So watch the labels close. Also get a filter and a gasket, those should come together. You will need a large pan to catch the fluid. It will be messy. I think I have a write up on this.

Ok, this write up is how to install a shift kit. Just ignore all the steps about removing the shift modulator and such. You just want to follow the steps showing how to drain the transmission, cleaning up, removing the filter, putting new filter in, and putting the pan back in place, and torquing the pan correctly.
