Default 93 Bonneville SE won't move tranny?

My neighbor has a nice 93 Green with the gold wheels and camel int.
Want'* to sell it cause it won't engage in any gear.
Anyone had this problem or know if its an easy fix?
Sounds like fluid pressure to me but I am not too familiar with 93 issues.
Haven't looked under the hood.

simple things first, check the cable and the linkage from the shifter to the top of the trans, and look for any SES codes, there are some codes for the trans, and you can pull them yourself

Default codes

could I jump the terminal like my 90?
I think they said it did act up a little before completely failing.
Wouldn't go right into gear. kinda slipped in.

yup same process to scan as your 90, see what you can find out, and it might be a SLE

I picked up a car that wouldn't grab any gear...two quarts of fluid later it ran like a champ.

Yeah, that'* what I am thinking. Check the fluid. If it is burned.. just forget about it. Chances are the tranny is shot. But if it is a nice deep red.. maybe you'll be cool. Start up the car, run it for a little, then check the fluid. Sounds like a lack of fluid to me.

Sounds well covered here. Check for codes, fluid, and trans linkage.

Default tranny

Ok I checked this car out today, here is what I found.

Tranny fluid: Its cherry red and was completely flushed about 8 months ago when it started acting up. (sorry guys I'm not a fan of doing this).

Linkage: appears to be working although sometimes there is a slight delay when it snaps
into park.

Codes: code 12 all the way 6 times.

Interesting the EGR is up front on 93 3800'*.
Started it up and it runs fine. When putting it into gear seems like it wants to go with slight
engagement but not enough to make it go.

Could it be mechanical? Pump? how close does the linkage have to be to work properly?

Okay, looks like you checked everything, EXCEPT the fluid level. Cherry red means nothing if you are missing 2 quarts. This may also be good to check if the pump works. Because if it doesn't then the level won't go down from where it started [check prior to starting engine, cold]. Before going any further, check the level, because that is the most important thing. If that checks out okay, try putting the gear selector into 1st gear, or between 2nd and 1st [if the linkage is off, it may go into either gear]. If that doesn't work, the linkage is probably fine.

Not quite sure about the snap you talk about.. I honestly don't feel like taking my car cover off, and all that **** just to check that.. if I do pull it off for some reason, I will check that. Never heard it snap though..

Oh yeah, one last thing, try starting the car in every gear. And try between gears. If the Neutral start switch thinks OD is N, then you know your linkage is off, too.

try putting the car in low gear and let her warm up to operating temp or not the best for the car is put her in drive rev the car high enough to shift to second gear to see if it engage. I got the same problem with my bonne and shes also a 93
