Default 92SSE failed emissions inspection---need estimate online

:?:

Hi, I need to find someplace online where I can research repair costs. My 92 SSE just failed the emissions inspection (HC=1.1265)...CO, NOx, & CO2 all passed though. The tech told me that it failed by "thismuch & it could be just a $5 wire". (Yeah, right)

Anyway, the brochure states "...suggested items to check are the ignition system, intake manifold, vacuum device, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, catalytic converter, cylinder compression components, carburetor or onboard computer sensors..."

My family wants to get rid of the car. I'd prefer to keep it for as long as I can, so I need to check out prices first. Does this sound like something that'll cost a coupl'a hundred or a thousand or what?
I'll call my car guy next week; I just wanted to get an objective estimate. Thanks
ps: worst thing about this car is the fading on the fin-thing (on the back)...well, that & the black paint flaked off the metal part of the door/window frame. Since the car'* dark blue, the now silver metal looks trashy. I'd really!!!!!!!! hate to sell this. It'* such a tank!

Ok, I still haven't found what I'm looking for. But I talked to my mechanic & he suggested that I take it back in for a retest & see if it passes. He claimed that some of the facilities have given clients inconsistant results.

Being a 92, you're the only year with no EGR valve. Rules that out!

Failing for unburnt hydrocarbons could mean you're running too rich. I'd change that O2 sensor. Use an AC Delco. The Bosch are provern BAD performers in our engines.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
