I have a 92 Bonneville SSE that I bought back in 97. It'* fully loaded, supercharged, HUD etc. After I paid it off in 2001, things started going wrong with it all at once. The instrument cluster is dead. Doesn't work at all. The HUD and radio and AC controls work. Also, the transmission is slipping. I took it to a shop and they said it was a pump inside the tranny. Also, one of the speed sensors on one of the wheels is causing the ABS and traction control not to work. I haven't really been driving it at all. It has 160,000 miles on it. I've been using my Trans Am as a daily driver for a year now and my wife has a Deville. Should I sell this thing or try to fix it? I'm quite capable of swapping out a tranny, but how much would a good tranny run me? How about an instrument cluster or the speed sensor? Would it even be worth it for me to fix this thing up? Should I part it out? The engine and supercharger work fine. Should I shove it in the closest lake? Thanks for any thoughts. Matt

When you turn the headlights on do the gauges on the instrument cluster light up?

Yes! The lights to all light up. Except for the Compass and driver info panel. Is this a sign of hope? Matt

What else works on it? Do the dummy lights work when you start the car? How about any of the gauges?

I'll have to check on the dummy lights. The only guages that are working are the speedometer and tach. The others are dead. This started out as a flicker. The guages would jump back and forth and the compass and driver info display would flicker on and off. I could usually smack the top of the dash and it would be fine for a while. Now, no amount of smacking will work. I don't know how much gas is in it. Right now, the car is out in my dads barn covered up. I plan on going to get it this weekend. Matt

OK, try checking fuse 8 in the passenger side kick panel fuse center, it may be out, loose, or corroded.

Also check fuses 6, 11, and 20 in the driver'* side fuse panel.

This may be your problem with the gauges cluster.

Wheel speed sensor is part of the hub/bearing assembly. $130, do-it-yourselfer. TC and ABS are highly overrated, anyway.

Try a tranny flush for $80 before investing in a new trans. It saved my *** last year.

I agree; the fact that thumping on the dash or gauge cluster would get a reaction suggests that you've just got the usual grubby connections in there. A disassembly and reassembly with a little cleanup should do the trick.
